Bayard’s Cove
Originally Dartmouth's only wharf, Bayard's Cove is a picturesque area protected by a historic fort.
Located at the southern end of town, this Tudor fort built by the borough of Dartmouth between 1522-1536, and housed heavy guns to protect the prosperous harbour town from attack. It was the last line of defence against enemy ships that eluded Dartmouth and Kingswear Castles, as well as the the iron chain stretched across the Dart Estuary between them.
Open daily all year round.
